All politics aside: When I was a little girl in Arkansas, I was sitting in front of the TV watching large balloons fall down on “Governor Bill Clinton." I didn’t fully comprehend what was happening, but I remember thinking to myself “when I grow up I want to attend that event!”

It turns out that event was the Democratic National Convention, which led to the inauguration of President Bill Clinton in 1992.

My grandparents attended the inauguration and came home to tell us about all of the stories from the inaugural balls to the overall excitement with so many Arkansans in DC.

Fast forward to 2008, my dream of attending “that event” came true when I attended the Democratic National Convention in Denver. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced; I loved it!

I have attended two Presidential Inaugurations (Bush 2005 & Obama 2009), and I joined Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign in 2016. I have held onto every ticket, pin, banner, and etc. from those events.

This Christmas, I was gifted my late grandfather’s jean jacket that he wore to the Blue Jean Bash - one of the many inaugural events he attended with my grandmother.

To many, it may be “political junk,” but to me it is proof that a dream I had as a little girl has truly come full circle!
